Janett (Jan) DeMers 1921-2012

On August 21, 2012 my mother's sister Jan DeMers was transported from the hospital to her home on Vashon Island. Jan is 91 -- 13 years older than me. I had come to Seattle to see her. I stayed at my youngest sister Jane's house.

That evening Jane and I took the ferry to Vashon Island and back. We visited with Jan and her daughter Susy for a little over an hour. We talked with Jan for a few minutes after we arrived, Then she sent us to the living room so she could take a nap. We talked with her again for a few minutes before we left.

Providence Hospice came the next day to set up a hospital bed in Jan and Susy's living room. After my second-youngest sister Mary arrived home from work, she and I and her husband Derrold went to Vashon Island to for a visit. Jan died a few minutes before we arrived.

A Memorial Service for Jan DeMers was held on September 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., at Island Funeral Service in Vashon, Washington. A reception followed in the lounge next to the chapel in the same building.

Several family members and friends shared memories of Jan and her life. I spoke first, followed by Jan's daughter Susy. To read what I said, click here: Shared memories by Terrence Halloran
